How to waive your credit card fees

Its easy to get approved with credit card application these days. There are even several credit card with the benefit of waived annual fee for the first year. If you dont want to pay the annual fee then remember to cancel credit cards before they charge you an annual fee!

Credit card annual fee ranges from 1500 pesos (HSBC RED Mastercard) and higher. Credit card fees differ from one credit card provider to another. In some cases, the annual fee is worth it. Credit card fees usually depends on the benefit, perks or how exclusive the card is. Some banks will waive the fees based on your relationship with the bank or base on how much you use the credit card.

But do you know that your credit card annual fee can be waived?

Here are some ways on how to get your annual credit card fee waived.
1. Use your reward points to waive the annual fee. If you use your credit card frequently, check if the points you earned can cover the annual fee. You can use your credit card points to pay for the annual fee.

2. Call the credit card issuer and request to waive the annual fee. It will be either good or bad.
GOOD : your request will be granted and annual fee will be waived.
BAD: your request will be denied. END OF DISCUSSION.

3. If your request got denied, do not be sad because you can still ask the agent POLITELY on alternatives or options that you can do so that your annual fee will be waived. Ask the agent nicely like: Is there anything else you can offer to retain me as a customer?
Here are some possible scenarios that can happen to your request:
– possibility 1: the agent will waive your annual fee but you need to use your card and swipe certain amount before the annual fee will be waived.
– possibility 2: the agent will waive your annual fee but you need to enroll a bill (utility bills like electricity, water, phone bills) to automatic payment to your card. This means, that your bill will be automatically charged to your credit card.
– possibility 4: the agent will waive your annual fee but instead of paying 100% of annual fee they will ask you to pay only pay 50% of it.

4. If your request got denied. You can try to call again so you can get to talk to another agent. Hopefully the new agent will be nicer and approve of your request.

5. If your request still got denied then decide if you still need that credit card and inform the bank that you are cancelling your card – NICELY! Just be ready if they decided to really cut your card and make sure that you have at least one other card to fall back on.

Ways to save money on holiday

We are already half way through 2018 but there’s still a lot of things that we anticipate!

If there’s something 2018’s got a lot of, it’s long weekends! Which is perfect for scheduling that much-awaited barkada or family trip!

You may already know that there are two long weekends coming up next month.

August 18-21, the 21st being Ninoy Aquino Day. File your leave on the 20th. to enjoy 4 days of me time!

August 25-27, 27th being National Heroes’ Day.

This is the perfect time to take a short trip away from work and relax with your favorite cup of tea!

But remember not to blow your budget while you are enjoying your vacation. Here are some ways to save money on holiday to avoid over-spending while you travel.

  1. Bring a water bottle. You can save money by bringing a water bottle when you travel and refilling it on the hotel or shops for free.
  2. Make your own mini meals. Do not skip meals just to save money. Instead of buying lunch and dinner at a restaurant, check out local shops where you can buy cheap local produce like bread, cheese and cold meats and create your own packed lunch. You’ll be surprised at how cheaply you can save money on food. Maybe you can try to pick a nice picnic spot to enjoy the local scenery. Also, you can discover more about the place by checking out the local shops, see what produce or products that they sell. This is also one way of getting off the beaten path and experience the local culture of your destination while avoiding the overpriced hotel lunch and dinners.
  3. Take advantage of a free breakfast. If there is a free breakfast buffet as part of your hotel accommodation then make sure you make the most of it. Try to visit the breakfast buffet before it closes and ask if you can get extra breads, fruits and pastries. Usually, its ok taking what is leftover which will probably just go to waste but remember to ask first. If breakfast is not included then do not spend much on overpriced hotel breakfast. Go out and find a nice local cafe, bread shop that will fill you up at just a fraction of the price.
  4. Head off the beaten track, the closer you are to the tourist hubs the more expensive things will be. Shops with higher tourist customers usually have higher price tags. Sometimes you need to head further if you want to get the best deals whether it be a restaurant, cafe or souvenir shop.
  5. Here in the Philippines, discounts are usually provided to Senior Citizen (age 60 and over) in transportation, food, hotel and Senior Citizen of Manila can even get Free Movies Pass. Students also enjoy discounts on transportation, museums and concert tickets. Available discounts may not be advertised so it’s always worth asking at the counter.
  6. The idea of budgeting on holiday may seem a drag but it if you want to save money while you are on vacation then it will really help you avoid spending money too much. Set yourself a daily amount to cover food, excursions, spontaneous shopping and tips.
  7. You can also check travel blogs like womenality to help you plan your vacation.
  8. How about you try Staycation? Staycations are basically vacations that are spent close to home where you dont have to spend so much on airline tickets and bus fares.
  9. Take advantage of technology and internet. It is easier now to discover, plan and experience the world with just a click of a button. If you are travelling abroad, you can use Klook to discover local cuisines and get discounts.

4 Misconceptions About Money You Need To Know

4 Misconceptions About Money You Need To Know

1. Bad money habits.

No matter how big your salary is, you will never get rich if you have a bad money habits. Realizing that you have a bad money as soon as possible can make a big impact on your financial situation. Asses how you spend and save your money and if you think that your money is bleeding, plug it immediately and change for the better.
Before you buy the latest laptop in the market, think first if you NEED it or just WANT it. By prioritizing the things that you NEED, you will be spending your money wisely.
Avoid shopping just because there is a SALE and do not be an impulsive buyer especially when you are already struggling with your finances.
In other words, adjust your lifestyle according to what you’re earning. Budget your money and follow this simple formula: Salary – Savings = Spend. Prioritize saving money for the future instead of spending your income then putting your left over money to your savings.
Remember to create a budget and stick to it no matter what. Discipline plays an important role if you want to get rich. If you have any vices like smoking, drinking alcoholic beverages, or gambling then try to stop because like shopping, traveling or eating out often, these are also reason why you spend your hard earned money. Just think how much money you spend on your vices?

2. Think long-term.

Most people doesn’t think long term in their financial decisions. They usually savor the fruits of their labor and spend all their money then later on starts to borrow money because they don’t have any savings.

Are you familiar with this saying “Travel Now Pulubi Later”? There are people who love to travel but don’t have any money in their savings or emergency fund. Read our article about delayed gratification to know how it can help you.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong in enjoying your hard earned money, but I highly suggest that you think long term. You can still travel but make sure that you budget your money. You can try Budgeting With The Help of An Orange Envelope help you manage your money wisely.

Some of the long-term goals that you should start planning right now are:
a. Savings. This is one of the basic but most commonly disregarded by people. Everyone should start a savings account. If you need to help in choosing the best account you can read this article.
b. Emergency fund. You should save at least 3 to 6 months expenses. Just in case something happens like accident or loss of job, you can be sure that you have spare money for daily expenses, bills and to survive until you can get back to your feet.
c. Insurance which you can use if unfortunate situations happen in the future. It could be sudden death, disability, or accident.
d. Investment. Planning your retirement is also recommended so you don’t have to worry about money in your old age. That’s why you should start investing your money so that you will have more time to grow your money and use it maybe in future travel or for your retirement. Investment can also be used to secure your children’s college education in the future. Read our article about “Why You Need to Invest

3. Make a decision base on logic and not on emotions.

People can be easily be blinded by their own emotions. You should learn how to control your emotions and decide base on what’s logical and what’s best for you. Don’t decide involving your money when you’re angry, scared, or depressed. Your tendency is to become irrational or impulsive and can easily make the wrong decisions.
How many people have you seen spend their hard earned money on vices just because there are heart broken or sad? People who are emotional or under emotional stress are more likely to waste their money on vices, gambling, drinking and things that will make them feel good even to the point of emptying their bank account.

4. You’re living a lifestyle beyond your means.

Reality check, some people are show off! If you try to live a life of the rich even when you’re not then you should STOP! You do not have to pretend to be rich in front of your friends. If they leave you just because you are not rich then they are not real friends at all. Remember, money doesn’t buy real friends!

You also do not need to follow the latest fad like gadgets and fashion especially if you can’t afford it. Just be humble and live within your means and you’d likely to become rich.
There’s no doubt that money can let you have a good time but having more money doesn’t mean that you will have more fun. FUN is relative, what fun to you maybe not fun for me. Remember when you play with your friends when you were young and have fun even if you don’t have any money?

4500 Php x 12 = 54000 Php
600 Php x 12 = 7200 Php
150 Php x 12 = 1800 Php

Now, multiply that by the number of years you are working and check out how much you already spent on coffee alone.

Partida na friend wala pa dyan ung mga extra coffee dates mo or yung times na nanglibre ka ng coffee, or ung nilibre mo ung long time no see mo na friend tapos dadalhin ka lang pala sa seminar for networking! Power diba?

Lets say you only buy coffee during payday and you already working for 5 years.

How much your coffee actually costs you
